Saturday, March 10th
Noon to 5 pm
Saturday, March 10th, from noon ’til five, Andy will be opening his shop/studio/garage to anyone with an interest in learning more about hot metal and seeing a linecaster in operation. Andy has a 1922 Intertype Model C (apparently named Eloise) running alongside a mid-’30s 10″x15″ Kluge Automatic letterpress as well as a number of other interesting odds and ends. Intertype (with the advertising slogan “The Better Machine”) was the Chevy to Linotype’s Ford, functionally and visually identical machines with minor differences in parts interchangeability.
The address is 1206 25th Avenue East, but it’s best to park on E Lee or 26th Ave E and come up the alley as there’s no easy access from the front of the house to the garage in back.
Guests of all ages are welcome, but please be aware that just like any situation where molten lead and exposed gears are involved, it’s best to keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times. Everyone should leave with the same number of fingers that they came with. Even better if they’re their own fingers and not somebody else’s.
Comments or questions are welcome.
